For the mountain biker, Mammoth Mountain's ski slopes are transformed into an extensive trail system of dirt single-track, and seven new freeride trails that can accommodate riders of all levels. The Scenic Gondola provides uphill access for mountain bikers, along with the Bike Park shuttle bus, which begins in the Village at Mammoth, and takes you to the 11,053-foot summit. You can descend 3,000 feet from Mammoth's summit, and be blown away by the amazing vistas and pine tree corridors. The newest freeride trail, Twilight Zone, features "The Deep End", a nine-foot tall, 50-foot wide, elevated, banked wooden bowl structure to challenge and thrill you! The Mammoth Lakes Welcome Center and Ranger Station located at the entrance to town on State Highway 203 can provide you with free mountain biking trail maps.
If you prefer road biking, Mammoth is a bike friendly town, with bike paths throughout this mountain town, which combined with the high altitude can give you an amazing workout! There are several scenic loops, and uncrowded paved roads for some smooth riding, such as Benton Crossing Road (locals identify it as "by the Green Church"), Mammoth Creek, Mammoth Scenic Loop, Upper Lakes Basin, Horseshoe Lake trail or "Horseshoe to town" on Lake Mary Road, and for a real workout, try Red's Meadow!
