For any fisherman, whether bait, fly, trolling or throwing lures is your passion, beautiful Mammoth Lakes and the surrounding area offer amazing opportunities for catching that trophy, or filling the frying pan with beautiful, tasty trout. In addition, the scenery with our "blue bird" skies and the crystal clear water provide photo opportunities that should not be missed! Our lakes are stocked regularly with Fish and Game trout, and trophy-sized Alpers trout. Mammoth Creek is a favorite for small stream anglers for its pan-sized Rainbows and wild Brown trout.
Mono County fishing season starts the last Saturday in April and ends on November 15th of every year. Anglers 16 years of age and older must have a fishing license. You can purchase an annual, one-day or two-day fishing license (valid for two consecutive calendar days). Information concerning license requirements and fees may be obtained from the Department of Fish and Game website or by calling 760-934-2664. Fishing licenses also may be purchased in several of the fisherman-friendly shops around town.

Check out the Mammoth Lakes Basin (Twin Lakes, Lake Mary, Lake George and Lake Mamie), located above the Town of Mammoth Lakes, for Rainbow, Brook and Brown Trout. Or venture north to the June Lake Loop with its four glistening lakes (June Lake, Gull Lake, Silver Lake and Grant Lake), all stocked with trophy-sized Alpers trout. Convict Lake, about 7 miles south on Route 395, is stocked with Rainbows and Brownies and offers one of the areas finest restaurants. If you want to try Crowley Lake, it features unique regulations, so call before taking the trip. The Rock creek area features Alpine lakes that are home to Golden, Brook, Rainbow, Brown and Cutthroat trout!
Rush Creek is the perfect spot for fly fishing, or try the great spots along the San Joaquin River in the Reds Meadow area. Hot Creek features catch-and-release fishing with barbless hooks. There is no end to the possible fishing spots available to visitors to the beautiful Mammoth Lakes area! You are bound to find that perfect special one to call your own.
